4 simple rules to choose words
Picking the right words to write a
letter, email or make a call is crucial.
There are four rules which apply to
choose words that are just right and to make a product or service more
meaningful, and special. But fancy words
may change the meaning of the content either by slowing down the reader, or he
might skip reading the words, or just read the gist or not read at all.
If a client calls or email keep
track of what he is saying – the words he uses to comment and to ask questions.
Reply to the questions using the same words and phrases the client has used.
You are likely to get an affirmative response.
Choose the right, precise words, if
you need use a thesaurus but avoid synonyms, they may change the meaning ever
so slightly. Use the right word in the right connotation.
Sensory words are also powerful
words it makes the reader feel, see, hear, smell and taste. These words use
different areas of the brain creating a sensory perception.
Sensory words make the reading
experience memorable and it requires more processing time than usual ordinary
words. Set of active words or those words that describe a movement help the reader
to experience what you have written.
If you see a product you may desire
it but if you can touch it your desire increases. Online the visitor may not be
able to touch the product but seduce the visitor with sensory words, let him imagine holding and handling
the product.
Make each word count. With words –
less is not more. Creating a sentence that is more specific and increases your
persuasiveness then go on and add more words. The readers will stop skimming
through the words and start reading. Also edit wisely, add metaphors, add
energetic words and let these words flow in a perfect rhythm.
